Online Shopping
store, online
marketplace, online storefront, or virtual store.
The process of buying goods or services online is known as online shopping or
e-commerce. It allows customers to purchase items directly from a seller using
a web browser or an app on their computer or mobile device.
Customers can find
products by visiting the retailer's website or by using a shopping search
engine to compare prices and availability from different online retailers.
Online shopping can be categorized into two types: business-to-consumer (B2C)
and business-to-business (B2B).
In B2C online shopping, customers buy products or services from
online stores, similar to shopping at a physical retail store.
In B2B online shopping, businesses
purchase products or services from other businesses through online platforms.
An online store typically provides customers with the ability to browse through
a range of products and services. They can view images, specifications,
features, and prices for each item. Online stores often have search features
that allow customers to find specific models, brands, or items.
To complete a transaction, online shoppers must have access to the
internet and a valid method of payment, such as a credit card, debit card, or
online payment service like PayPal. For physical products, the online retailer
ships the items to the customer's address. For digital products, such as
software or digital audio files, the online retailer typically sends the file
to the customer electronically.
Some of the largest online retailing corporations include Alibaba, Amazon.com,
and eBay. Other terms used to refer to online shopping include e-tailing,
e-shopping, and e-commerce. An online store can also be referred to as an
e-web-store, e-shop, e-store, Internet shop, web-shop, web store, online
marketplace, online storefront, or virtual store.
